20’s Plenty for our Schools

Folkestone West campaigner Gary Fuller is calling for residential streets in Folkestone to have 20mph speed limits, with 20 mph zones near schools.
The Leas already has a 20 mph speed limit, as do bits of Cheriton, and the nearby Saltwood School. Gary says:
"We should be making our roads better and safer.
"Pedestrians are five times more likely to be killed by a car travelling at 30 mph than one at 20 mph, and 80% of children killed on our roads die in built up areas.
"20 mph zones reduce casualties by up to 60%. There are six schools in Folkestone West alone. It's a no-brainer.
"If we want to keep children safe on our streets we need to keep speeds as low as possible. That's why I want to see 20 mph speed limits on Folkestone streets.
"If 20mph is good enough to protect the residents and visitors to the Leas, it's good enough for our children.
"And with many of our roads potholed and rutted, this causes vehicles to swerve and worse - especially for bikes. Safe, pothole free roads should be the norm, not the exception."
