A Finishing Touch for the Sandgate War Memorial
Three decommissioned power cupboard doors in the wall of Enbrook Park on Sandgate High Street near the War Memorial have been refurbished by Saga who own the wall.
The doors had previously been falling off and unkempt: after they were reported to Saga by Sandgate Parish Council the doors had emergency repairs to keep them in place, and in the last few days have now been refurbished and painted.
Parish Councillor Tim Prater was pleased to see the works. He said:
"The doors were originally mentioned to be by a local shopkeeper who thought they were dragging the look of the area down. He was delighted about the works to the War Memorial itself which the Parish Council had organised, including cleaning the memorial, resurfacing the plinth and "bench step", painting up the bollards, bins and benches and adding new flower planters, but pointed out the the doors falling off rather spoiled the overall look!
"Now Saga have had the doors have been fixed up too the whole area looks good: a fitting memorial to those who have fought for us, and a nice example of Saga working with Sandgate to make the area better."
