A Fundraising Plea for local community projects...
I am holding a Cream Tea Fundraiser and a BBQ on the same day (Saturday 13th August) at my House (19, Beachborough Road, Folkestone) to raise money for Alex and Duncan's Community Projects that they run in Shepway. 3pm and 7.30pm start times. £5 per person (Children under 14 = FREE).
Many of you will know about the Shepway Primary Singers and The Mission Gospel Choir, but perhaps you don't know that Alex and Duncan also go into Age Concern and get everyone singing. They visit schools and promote Sports, Drama, Singing and The Arts amongst young people. Their project called 'Generation Link' brings school children and the elderly in care homes together, to sing and chat and one of the highlights of their week is making music with young people with disabilities at a local Special School.
Alex and Duncan have plans to start other Community Projects amongst young people the elderly and those who are disadvantaged, such as:
- Drama, Dance and Singing with excluded children to improve educational outcomes
- Sports Journalism Sessions to raise literacy levels in Primary Schools
- Dance Project for young people in East Folkestone
- Shepway Young Musician of the Year Competition
- 'Take the Stage' competition where young people perform in a professional theatre
- 'Get Involved in Sport' activity day for unusual sports and activities for greater participation
I am hosting the Cream Tea and BBQ to support these projects and plans and hope you will support them by attending. Please RSVP to Kate McNeice.
