A Record of Action. A Challenge to Others.
Everywhere I go I hear "You're all the same, say you're going to do something, get elected and do something different."
Well, I decided to do something different. I've decided to give you a list of just some of the things I have already achieved, and continue to do for this are. Then, I'm asking you to challenge the other candidates for their list of achievements for Folkestone & Hythe. Here's mine:
- Campaigned successfully to keep all services at the Royal Victoria Hospital, when we were threatened with losing them
- Campaigned successfully for K College when the plan was to sell the site. We now have East Kent college, with huge investments, and a very bright future and stunning new courses
- Campaigned successfully to save the CCTV cameras in Folkestone, by asking people what they wanted, and secured the service
- Campaigned to save services to our local police and fire services
- Campaigned successfully to save the Leas Lift, an integral link part of linking lower and upper Folkestone and our heritage.
- Campaigned successfully against the disastrous parking strategy introduced into the heart of Folkestone which did its bit in destroying businesses
- Campaigned against the expansion of Lydd Airport to enable them to take 737's and, half a million passengers. 70% of residents did not want the expansion, due to noise, traffic and pollution for people and the wildlife. Worked with the CPRE, RSPB, Keep the Marsh Special Alliance & Lydd Airport Action Group (LAAG)
Nationally
- Campaigned successfully against the price of fuel. I was the co- founder of the Fairfueluk campaign with Quentin Wilson. We managed to change Government policy and the planned duty rises, which has saved each and every one of you 13pence for every litre of fuel you put in your vehicle.
- Campaigned successfully for retired Gurkhas. I was an integral part of the Gurkha Justice Campaign with Joanna Lumley.
- The fact that Gurkhas were prepared to die for this country, and yet were not allowed to live here I found unbelievable, as did the rest of the Country. It took 5 years to change government policy to allow retired Gurkhas to have the right to live here if they so wished.
- Campaigning for retired Gurkhas to have parity in their pension, not a charitable hand out from central government.
On top of this, I have helped so many people on an individual basis with casework, and improving their lives in some area or another
Can I ask you to challenge other candidates for their achievements in the area we call home?
