A sad indictment of Folkestone's roads and pathways
I'd like to thank Kent Highways for suggesting on February 26th that I report the faults I'd observed. They will be pleased to know that I reported them on February 18th using their online system. Given their response to the streetlights issue, I think it's pertinent to mention that the bus stop in that report wasn't fixed by the time the Herald went to print eight days later.
Since July 2008, I've made 38 reports using the Kent Highways online system, not to mention the faults highlighted when I took a local County Cllr around Central Folkestone, and those highlighted by my Lib Dem colleagues. For one person to have found that many faults is a sad indictment of the state of Folkestone's roads and pathways.
I agree with Sarah Smith about the positives. Folkestone Town Council has an ambitious programme of tree and flower bed planting, and bin and bollard painting. There are initiatives coming through the council's Community Services Committee that will improve our town in the future as well. We've agreed a Town Plan which will be the foundation of a brighter future for Folkestone. My concern is that people won't be able to get into Folkestone due to pitted and broken roads and pathways and that no one will be able to see the beautiful Crocuses because the street lights are on the blink.
