Absentee Conservative Loses Seat

Conservative Shepway District Councillor Toby Clifton-Holt has lost his Council seat after it emerged there was no record of him having attended a single Shepway Council meeting for SIX months!

Council rules state that if a Councillor does not attend a meeting in that time, they are considered to have resigned. With the local elections for the district due in May, this leaves Romney Marsh ward with no district councillor until then.

Lib Dem campaigner Jae Kay said:

"Not attending a meeting in six months is a joke. Councillors get paid an allowance to stand up for their area. How can you stand up for local people if you don't even show up?"
