Action on Central Folkestone's Highways Faults

2 Mar 2009

Local Lib Dem Campaigner Gary Fuller has been assured that, after a walkaround with the local County Cllr last year and the recent article in the Folkestone Herald, action is finally being taken to fix some of the many highways faults in Central Folkestone.

Gary has made 38 separate reports, some identifying multiple faults, to Kent Highways since July last year. He has recently been e-mailed by County Cllr Rolund Tolputt to assure him that something is being done and to explain why there have been delays in fixing some faults.

Gary has specifically noted that the vandalised Bus Stop he reported on February 18th has finally been fixed, around nine days after he reported it. Commenting, Councillor Fuller said:

"I'm really pleased that a potentially dangerous fault such as the vandalised bus stop in Castle Hill Avenue has been fixed. Kent Highways have stated that they specifically aim to fix streetlights within seven working days. This is a laudable aim, but one which, in my opinion, is rarely being achieved without significant pressure being put on what appear to be severely limited resources.

"The state of our town's streets is unacceptable and I look forward to the promised action. Realistically though, for Folkestone's streets to get the improvements they need, Kent's County Council needs to get the improvements it needs, and June 4th is the perfect opportunity for that to begin."
