Lynne: "4 tickets for dog fouling in over 3 months is ridiculous"

Lynne Beaumont has slammed the new littering warden system as hitting the wrong targets.

Shepway Council claimed the new scheme and fines would target litter and fouling when it started in July.

Since July only FOUR penalties have been issued for dog fouling. However, hundreds of fines have been issued for dropping cigarette butts in the same period.

Lib Dem Campaigner Lynne says:

"This isn't stamping out the problems of litter and dog fouling. This is picking on easy targets.

"4 tickets for dog fouling in over 3 months is ridiculous. The fouling & litter problem is hardly being tackled - but easy money is being picked up off smokers. Smokers shouldn't drop fag butts, but litter and fouling should be the first targets.

"Dog fouling has been a major problem in our area for a long time, along with the enormous amount of litter that has been dropped.

"Why on earth are we not tackling the big issues before we start on the small ones?

"And where is the money from fines going? Has a penny of it actually been spent on new litter or cigarette bins so far?"
