Lib Dems want to see the end of the Council Tax

Lib Dem campaigners are calling on Tony Blair to axe the Council Tax. Peter Carroll said, "Council Tax is an unfair tax that is hurting many people across Shepway. We should axe the tax and replace it with a system based on ability to pay."

Thousands of people have already signed a national petition calling for the tax to go. Lib Dem leader Charles Kennedy has pledged that a Lib Dem Government would abolish the tax completely.

Peter Carroll continued, "We want to bring maximum pressure on Tony Blair to act now. That's why we are collecting a nationwide petition demanding action. I would urge local people to help our campaign by signing."

More Big Rises On The Way

Shepway residents are bracing themselves for more big Council Tax rises next year. The Labour Government is expected to underfund Shepway Council in 2004.
