Lynne Beaumont shows the impact on Folkestone Leas of the new parking charges

Lynne Beaumont has promised to force a review of on-street parking if re-elected to Shepway District Council.

The new on-street parking charges were recently introduced by the Conservative dominated District Council. Traders across Folkestone have already seen takings fall and visitor numbers drop.

Experienced campaigner and ex-Councillor Lynne is standing for the Lib Dems in District and Town by-elections in Park ward to be held on 22nd November.

The election was called after a Conservative Councillor resigned having failed to attend any Folkestone Council meetings in over SIX months.

Lynne says:

"Shepway Council have got to urgently look again at these charges. Traders are taking the pain and visitors being put off.

"Speaking recently to a visitor from Dover, they told me they used to come over to do a little shopping after a health appointment. Not any more. They've been driven away by parking meters on our roads. How many more have done the same?

"I don't believe the charges should have been put in place. Shepway Council should have actually listened to local businesses and residents, who said no. They've done such damage to our town.

"The system has to be changed now, before we see even more 'To Let' signs in local shop windows. If we need to get rid of the meters: let's do it. If we need to make parking free for the first hour - lets do it. If we have to slash the charges - lets do it.

"Folkestone, its residents and its businesses should come FIRST - not extra ticket revenue for the Council."
