Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Folkestone & Hythe, Lynne Beaumont, has welcomed a 400,000 Euro grant for Romney Marsh and two other sites to develop green tourism.

Lynne commented:

"This is a real boost to Shepway. At a time when we are launching a campaign to develop eco and green tourism right across Romney Marsh, this cash boost will help to enhance our area in the eyes of others. Many people have mixed feelings about being part of Europe, but here is a great example as to how this can benefit our area.

"In the minds of most people in Romney Marsh are jobs, the economy, and questions on where is the money coming from. This cash injection will help invigorate the Marsh. It will encourage people to visit, spend their money in local shops, local restaurants and stay in local hotels and bed and breakfasts.

"Our job is to secure more money to expand the horizons of Romney Marsh for the benefit of local people."
