Shepway Councillor Tim Prater has warmly welcomed news (http://tinyurl.com/23v76fo) that the Folkestone Leas Lift will be operated by a group led by local historian Eamonn Rooney, and has wished the new company every success.

Lib Dem Councillor Tim Prater said:

"It is great news that the Leas Lift will be up and running again, hopefully on Monday 19th July. The lift is an important link between the Lower Leas and the main town, and it was a big loss, and I believe a big mistake, when Shepway Council stopped running the lift last year without having any plan to allow the lift to continue operating.

"I hope the current refurbishment and renovation goes smoothly, and that the cost of that work has not been increased by the long period of inactivity of the lift. With the lift back in action, Folkestone will see a key link restored, be able to showcase a fantastic part of our heritage, and get local volunteers, groups and schools involved and interested in its running and history."
