Bowling for Beginners...
Invitations to events for Mayors can be a little vague - as was the case for the fundraising event put on by the Mayor of Ramsgate. The invitation invited us to attend a Bowls Tournament at Ramsgate Bowling Club but the clue was in the extra request for information on our shoe size!
Participation seemed therefore to be expected. The level of participation however was in doubt. Were we expected to simply bowl the first wood or was this a whole game expected? Were other club players involved or just Mayors?
All was answered when we arrived and the ten pairs of Mayors and Mayoresses (or companions) were handed their box of woods and asked to collect their shoes. Fear of embarrassment began to take hold but having got to know so many of the other Mayors, it could only become a fun afternoon with the aim of raising cash for his chosen charity.
I am sure readers will be pleased to know that even though Kate and I have never played bowls, we saw off the opposition and won the event, receiving a trophy to remember the occasion by. A new career beckons...!
