Bring it On

Well, as New Years go, there have been better.

As you will all be aware by now, David Callahan from Hawkinge left the party to sit as an independent.

David has worked hard for the last three and a half years, but he felt frustrated by many things to do with local politics. The main frustration, is the Tory whip system. As David himself said, you could put the best possible idea to Shepway District Council, and the Tories and People First together would vote it down.

I have to agree, that this whip system is dreadful for the people of Shepway. Hence the dreadful decision to introduce car parking charges in Lyminge, and many many more. It stands to reason, that some ideas may be right for Densole, but dreadful for Dungeness, but the Tory whip system isn't interested in whats best for the people in their area, just winning in the council chamber. It is about time the people of Shepway understood how the Tories operate in the area we call home, and you can be sure we will tell them.

Unfortunately, Peter and Christena Smith have suspended their membership from the party. Shepway District Council believe an overpayment of Peters benefits has taken place, and they intend to take this matter to court.

Peter and Christena always ask officers advice when completing these forms, and they will be challenging this decision. To enable them to do this, and so as not to put the party in a difficult situation, they suspended their own membership. They now sit as independent councillors, but not part of the independent group.

The campaigning for the Royal Victoria Hospital is continuous, and we will carry on the good fight.

There may be fewer of us in the council chamber at this point in time, but our message is still getting across, and we continue to hold the Tories and People First to account. We stand for what we believe in, and we will continue to do so.

Thank you to every single deliverer, the ladies who gather regularly to help get our literature ready to go out, and to all of you who know, that the best result for Shepway is a Lib Dem result. Without you, this would not be possible. Here's to the next few months, and I know we are all very excited about the prospect of the elections in May. Bring it on.
