British dentistry is in decay
This Conservative Government has brought our beloved NHS to its knees.
The Liberal Democrats have recently uncovered evidence of the true extent of the decay they have allowed to take hold of British dentistry.
The research has found that fewer than one in two children saw an NHS dentist in the last year, while only a third of adults did in the past 2 years.
Some are waiting up to 18 months for procedures such as tooth extractions. Some are even waiting years.
This is having a devastating effect.
Tooth decay is now the number one reason for hospital admission among young children.
This uncaring and out-of-touch Conservative Government has left yet another vital public service to rot. It is not good enough.
It is time they listened and implemented Liberal Democrat plans to save our dentist services, and vitally, our children’s health.
This crisis requires urgent action. Under our plans, we would:
✅ Fix the Tories’ broken system that is driving dentists away from the NHS and leaving millions of patients in ‘dental deserts’.
✅ Launch an emergency scheme to ensure children, pregnant women and young mothers can access free checkups on time.
✅ Roll-out supervised tooth brushing training for children in early years settings, such as nurseries.
Whilst Rishi Sunak, Steve Barclay, and the rest of the Conservative Government bury their heads in the sand, we have a plan.
A plan which would cut waiting times and relieve pain. A plan this country desperately needs.
