Shepway Lib Dem Peter Carroll is urging all residents to support his campaign to safeguard the Main Post Office in Folkestone. It has emerged that 270 of the 560 Main Post Offices in the country may be closed or sold off in new plans.

Peter Carroll said, 'We have fought the closure of local Post Office after local Post Office all across Shepway. Every time, we were told that these closures were essential but that the big Post Offices were safe. Now that looks like it may not be true. Local people will be outraged at the possibility that the Main Post Office in Folkestone could be threatened.'

Peter added,'This Office is very busy. Local people tell me that they almost lose the will to live as the queues can be so long. The thought of this Office shutting is appalling'.

Shepway Lib Dems are launching a town wide petition which will demand from the Government and the Post Office bosses that the future of Folkestone Main Post Office will be secure'.
