Saturday 12th July is the date of the wonderful Day carnival in Folkestone. This year the hundreds of dazzling costumes celebrate our beautiful local coastline, landscape and wildlife. They will be parading from The Stade fishmarket to the Leas Bandstand from 2pm, accompanied by a fabulous line up of raucous drumming bands.

This years Charivari has borrowed the name Up On the Downs from the work of the fab new local landscape heritage team who have helped fund the event.

Over twenty schools and community carnival groups are taking part and we have created a Teachers Resource pack for schools to carry on exploring the themes of Up On the Downs. The bands are playing until 6pm at Leas Bandstand, so bring a picnic and join us for a day of music, colour and sunshine.

Our sincere thanks also go to all the funders including The Roger De Haan Charitable Trust, Heritage Lottery, Shepway Schools, Folkestone Town Council, Kent County Council, Shepway District Council, Rotary Club of Fokestone Channel and Interreg ICR.

Please donate to Strange Cargo to help us keep delivering great art!

We must raise funds each year to deliver exhibitions, commission new work and produce our events. We believe that all our exhibitions and events should be free and for everyone but in order to maintain this, we need to raise more money.

You can support us by making a donation - we have a donation box in the gallery or you can give now by using our brand new Donate button, which also appears on our website and Facebook page. And, you can help us in other ways, such as joining our wonderful team of volunteers.

Thank you for your support.
