Cheriton Rec Play Area Enhancement Consultation - Have Your Say
Major improvements to Cheriton Rec are on the way after years of pressure from local residents, park users and your local Lib Dem team. The park has been agreed as a priority to development after resident consultation and projects are in place to improve the play equipment, facilities and general environment at the park.
Funding has been secured through the KCC Playbuilder scheme (funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families) in order to provide the play facilities. Shepway Council are now consulting on which of two options for improving the play facilities local residents most like. You can see details and have your say on the two proposed schemes at www.shepway.gov.uk/cheriton
Work is still ongoing on securing funding for to build a BMX / Skate plaza and improve the lighting in the park, which is hoped to be achieved next year.
Cheriton Councillor Tim Prater is pleased that work is underway to improve the park. Tim says:
"Cheriton Rec is a much valued and used area of Cheriton, but it could be so much better. its great that funding has been secured for the first phase of improving the facilities of the Rec, and I hope local residents will have their say on which scheme they like most.
"Crucially however, we will be keeping the pressure on to see even more facilities at Cheriton Rec, especially a new BMX / Skate plaza and improved lighting which have been requested by many local young people and local residents. Although we have some of the funding together for that next phase, we need to raise more before that scheme can be started, but I'm hopeful to see that started by this time next year."
