Closure of Sandgate Road, Folkestone. Again.
Kent County Council is to close a section of Sandgate Road, Folkestone, from Monday while it investigates why the road has collapsed twice in recent days.
The short section between Church Hill Avenue and Christchurch Road will be shut while engineers look into the problem and work to put it right.
While the closure is in place, a diversion will be set up for traffic.
The One-way Traffic order in respect of Manor Road between the Bouverie Road West and the entrance to Sainsbury's Car Park will be suspended when the relevant signs are covered or removed.
This is in effect whilst Sandgate Road is closed, and means that Manor Road is two-way between Bouverie Road West and Sandgate Road.
Folkestone County Councillor Tim Prater commented:
"This road has been collapsing for YEARS - local residents knew about it, Kent Highways knew about it. Why it should come as a surprise to them now that the road has issues amazes me.
"I suspect we'll get back into the merry-go-round of blame between Southern Water and Kent Highways that we have seen before - let us hope that this time it leads to a fast and final fix, instead of the months of closures, delay and argument that has happened so often in the past on repairs in Sandgate Road."
