Concern Many May Be Missing Out On Financial Support
Older residents in Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh are being urged to check if they can apply for Pension Credit to boost their income.
There is concern pensioners may be unaware of the payments which could provide much-needed cash and give them access to the Winter Fuel Payment of £300.
Residents who have reached state pension age and are on a low weekly income (below £218.15 for a single person and £332.95 for a couple) may be eligible for the benefit.
Cabinet Member for Finance and Governance, Tim Prater, said: “We are urging people not to delay checking whether they could qualify. If pensioners are in receipt of the benefit, or other means-tested benefits, they will have automatic eligibility for the winter fuel payment of up to £300 and can also get help with council tax.
“Families and friends can help too by checking with relatives and helping with applications. Folkestone & Hythe District Council’s welfare team has also been talking with those known to them who may be eligible.”
The deadline to apply for Pension Credit and be able to receive the Winter Fuel Payment is 21 December 2024.
More information can be found on the government website or by calling the national Pension Credit helpline on 0800 99 1234. A friend or family member may ring on a pensioner’s behalf.
