Conservatives Abandon Folkestone Town Council

9 Apr 2007

The Conservatives have nominated just THREE candidates for the Folkestone Town Council elections on 3rd May for the 18 available seats. The Liberal Democrats are standing for every Town Council seat. Labour are standing no Town Council candidates anywhere in Folkestone - in Hythe they managed just one candidate for the Town Council elections!

Folkestone Town Councillor for Cheriton, Tim Prater, says:

"We take Folkestone, and Folkestone Town Council, seriously. It seems that the Conservatives have abandoned Folkestone - simply from the nominations, they are GUARANTEED to see their current group of five councillors drop in size!

"The Liberal Democrats will fight to make Folkestone Clean, Green and Safe - a place to be proud of. It's time that decisions that affect Folkestone are made here, and we will work to build on the work of the Council over the last few years and see important powers transferred from Shepway to Folkestone, where they belong."
