Discover Folkestone July Newsletter: Town Council helps secure Tourism Future for Folkestone
Discover Folkestone, Hythe and Romney Marsh have released their July newsletter - featuring the key news that the organisation's short term future has been secured by support from a range of Councils including Folkestone Town Council.
Folkestone Town Council agreed financial support of £5,000 for the Folkestone marketing organisation last week as part of a package to boost the emphasis on Tourism in the town. In a motion proposed by the majority Lib Dem group and backed across the Council, Folkestone Town Council are also looking into providing a visitor leaflet information point from its Town Centre Offices to further boost support for local businesses and visitors.
As the newsletter says:
"Following weeks of tenacious lobbying to argue the case that local authorities and other beneficiaries of the tourism economy should contribute to the cost of generating visitor business, we are able to tell members and supporters the very good news that Kent County Council, Shepway District Council and Folkestone Town Council have responded to the extent of providing grants which will enable operations to continue until autumn.
"What support is forthcoming thereafter is dependent on numerous factors, including our own success in broadening the membership base to include public, commercial and voluntary interests and in finding new sources of revenue."
