Emergency Temporary Road Closure: Sandgate Road, Folkestone
Kent Highway Services have identified dangerous road depressions on Sandgate Road, Folkestone and have given agreement for Southern Water to put in place an emergency road closure to carry out investigation and remedial works to the sewer and carriageway. Works will commence on Tuesday 23 February 2010 and are estimated to be take 2 weeks to complete, depending on investigation finding.
The road will be closed between the junctions of Earls Avenue and Castle Hill Avenue. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained. The alternate route for through traffic is via Earls Avenue, Shorncliffe Road and Castle Hill Avenue.
Southern Water and their contractors Clancy Docwra apologise for inconvenience caused and recognise due to the previous closures of the road in 2008 & 2009, the need to carry out works in an expedient but, safe manner such that the impact to the local public is minimised.
Harvey Central Lib Dem Town Councillor, Gary Fuller, commented:
"Sandgate Road subsidence has been a problem for years - it's time Southern Water sorted the problem permanently. There have been months of closures and disruption in the road over the past few years, which is unfair to local residents, Folkestone businesses and bus travellers all of whom will see their lives disrupted.
"Clearly works need to take place now, and quickly, but can we have a proper and permanent fix this time please?"
