Folkestone "Age Concern" Con Warning

13 May 2013

Kent Trading Standards are warning about two people posing as Age Concern workers in the Folkestone area, but then robbing their victim.

The criminals have entered an elderly victim's property stating they are from Age Concern and would like to discuss the victim receiving meal deliveries. The female, calling herself Jennifer, stayed with the victim and talked whilst the male, calling himself Graham, entered the victim's bedroom and stole prescription drugs and money.

  • Male using the name Graham described as white, thin, approx. 6ft, 30 years old, short brown hair, clean shaven, wearing a beige zipper jacket with white collar shirt, jogging bottoms and trainers
  • Female using the name Jennifer described as white, thin, approx. 5ft 6, 30 years old, local accent, straight brown hair in a ponytail, wearing a black short sleeved top with thick white writing and jogging bottoms.

Kent Trading Standards advise consumers that Age Concern does not exist as they are now called Age UK and to not let anyone stating they are from Age Concern enter your premises. If these individuals contact you please inform Kent Police on 101.

Kent Trading Standards advise consumers to be wary when dealing with traders at their door. Consider carefully whether you do want the goods or services offered, and ask for formal identification and be prepared to check it with the issuing organisation before letting people into your home.
