Green, Retrofit and Construction Skills initiative
This is a UK Government funded initiative aimed at increasing the skilled workforce in the Green, Retrofit and Construction sectors. Grant funding has been made available for training individuals.
Through the interventions Folkestone & Hythe District Council (FHDC) are committed to supporting for the People and Skills priority, support is being provided to help fund local skills needs. This includes technical and vocational qualifications and courses, and training for vocational licences relevant to local area needs and high-value qualifications where there is a need for additional skills capacity that is not being met through other provision.
FHDC are partnered with East Kent College, who will provide fully funded courses which include:
- Certificate in Retrofit
- Award in Domestic Retrofit Advice
- Award in Energy Efficiency for Older and Traditional Buildings
- Air Source Heat Pump Installation
- Award in Ground Source Heat Pump Systems
- Award in Domestic Retrofit
- Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Solar Thermal Hot Water
- Retrofit Co-ordination and Risk Management
- HTQ in Construction Management
- Diploma in Plumbing Studies
- Diploma in Electrical Installation
- Diploma in Bricklaying
- Water Supply Regulations
- Unvented Cylinder Testing
These courses will soon be live on the East Kent College website, at which time individuals or employers can apply for staff directly through their site.
In addition, funding has been made available for employers to apply for funding for staff for bespoke training not available through the East Kent College offering, where it still meets the scheme criteria and falls within the green, retrofit and construction sectors. This will be applied for by submitting an application to Folkestone & Hythe District Council.

The scheme runs until 31st March next year, though this may end sooner if funds become exhausted.
