Folkestone Primary Academy - Winners of the 2010 Folkestone Councillors' Football Cup

Folkestone Academy Primary School were the winners of the 2010 Folkestone Councillors' Cup football tournament held on Wednesday 3rd November. The football competition held The Stadium, Church Road, Cheriton, is organised by Cheriton Councillor Dhan Gurung, funded by Folkestone Town Council and supported by Charlton Athletic Community Support who provide coaches and referees for the day. Teams from Folkestone Primary Academy, Stella Maris, Morehall, Harcourt, Cheriton and St Martins in Folkestone were all taking part.

After a series of group games, this years final was between and Folkestone Primary Academy and Cheriton Primary School.

At the end of the 7-a-side tournament, every competitor receives a certificate, with trophies for the winning schools and a host of other awards.

Organiser Councillor Dhan Gurung said after the event:

"The competition went very well, and all the players, teaching staff, coaches and parents who attended were very pleased and happy with the day. Our intention is to bring local schools together, to have fun, learn more about each other and see the benefits of working together as a team. Congratulations to Folkestone Primary Academy - winners of the 2010 Folkestone Councillors' Cup!"

Councillor Tim Prater, who "cut the ribbon" to open the event this year, commented:

"This is the third year of this fantastic tournament, that brings together teams, teachers and parents from across Folkestone. The tournament is brilliantly organised by Councillor Dhan Gurung with support from a wide range of groups, and there is a really competitive feel!

"Thank you to all those who came along and played, helped manage the teams, ran the day and supported the teams."
