Footpath improvements for Church Road, Cheriton

21 Jul 2008

Planned works to improve footpaths near Cheriton Primary School in Church Road Cheriton have been welcomed by Cheriton Councillor Tim Prater.

The works plan to:

  • construct a short length of footway linking Cheriton Court Road with Pond Hill Road
  • lower a number of kerbs on both sides of Cheriton Close Road close to its junction with Church Road and also in Church Road opposite the grassed area between Cheriton Court Road and Pond Hill Road
  • replace approximately half of the grassed areas outside 108 to 114 Church Road with macadam.

The work will take place in the general area of Cheriton Primary School, specifically in Church Road, Pond Hill Road and Cheriton Court Road. The work will be carried out during the schools summer break (starting 11 August 2008 and taking approximately three weeks) to minimise the risk to school children. Pedestrians will be provided with a safe route past the works during construction.

Tim Prater commented:

"Anything that helps to provide a safer and defined route for children walking to and from school is obviously a good thing, and I hope the works can be completed before the start of the new term.

"Ongoing works in nearby Horn Street have really disrupted St Martins School, including forcing a closure on one day as access was blocked. I'm sure Kent Highways will do all they can to make sure Cheriton School suffers no disruption."

If you have any questions about this work, you can contact Kent Highway Services on the 24 hour helpline on 08458 247 800 quoting reference SHEK00294-01.
