Sandgate's Castle Road Car Park. Free to park Saturday 7th, 14th & 21st December, and generally, PLENTY of spaces...

Shepway District Council have announced that this Christmas you can park for free in Shepway Council car parks and in specified on-street areas on Saturday 7th, 14th and 21st of December.

See this map of the parking locations in and around Folkestone town centre.

You can also park for free in council car parks in Sandgate, Hythe and New Romney on Saturday 7th, 14th and 21st December.

Sandgate Parish Councillor Tim Prater commented:

"As my fellow Parish Councillor Nina Bliss said when this was recently announced at a Sandgate meeting 'Is that all? What about Sunday?'

"It's a small but useful concession though, and I hope people will use the opportunity to shop local and park for free in Shepway in December.

"I hope Shepway make a New New Resolution to revisit our parking charges - where car parks are almost totally empty, almost all of the time, the smart thing to do is cut charges and get people using them.

"Car Parks like Castle Road in Sandgate are empty far too often: slash charges, get people using them and lets see the benefit. They've cut charges at the Leas Cliff Car Park in Folkestone, and it's now used signficantly more. Why have they not done so elsewhere?"
