From the Archives: Declaring Interests

2 Jan 2020

Former Liberal and Lib Dem Councillor Terry Preston has been in touch with the minutes of the first ever motion to Shepway District Council on 4th July 1973.

At that meeting, Terry as a lone Liberal Councillor moved a motion calling for full financial disclosure of all outside financial interests.

Sadly, after amendment, that the motion was lost, but it was one of many things that Terry spent years championing as a Liberal Councillor that did in time come to pass. Public questions at meetings was another example - that one took over 20 years to get through!
