Lib Dem Folkestone Town Councillor Gary Fuller has joined calls for the replacement of the oil drum barrier across Rendezvous Street in the town centre. Cllr Fuller who represents Harvey Central Ward, which covers the town centre area, has had a number of complaints about the barrier, which he described as an eyesore.

Gary said:

"This barrier has a detrimental effect on the look of the area and adversely effects local businesses. It is about time it was replaced with something more in keeping with the look of a town centre, rather than something you'd expect to see on a rubbish tip."

Gary has written to Shepway District Council Cabinet member Rory Love requesting an update on the issue, which has blighted the look of the area for a number of years.

Moves to replace the barrier have, so far, come to nothing, with the issue going before Shepway's cabinet upon a number of occasions, and the replacement of the barrier also being raised by Folkestone Town Councillors at their most recent partnership meeting with District Council representatives.
