Broken fence and handrail in Sandgate - fix in place thanks to Gary Fuller and PBI Builders!

A local resident called by today to report that a handrail by steps leading from Meadowbrook in Sandgate to Chichester Road had collapsed, making it difficult to get up the steps from Meadowbrook.

Sandgate Parish Councillors Tim Prater and Gary Fuller went to have a look at the problem. A post had collapsed - a simple job to fix, but less so finding out whose responsibility the fix was! The ownership of the steps was in question: it is not an identified Public Right of Way (so not necessarily Kent Highways responsibility), and was going to be hard to work out which Council, business or group was responsible for repairs.

To help assess the problem, Gary asked local PBI Builders to go and have a look at the handrail, and within 30 minutes, they got it back up in order to make the stairs easier to get up and down - all for free! The repair was made within a couple of hours of the problem being reported!

Gary said:

"Getting the handrail back up so fast is great. It'll make it much easier for local residents to get up and down those steps.

"Many thanks to PBI Builders for their voluntary work in sorting this problem out. It's clear the fence post and fixings need replacing fully, but in the meantime the repair should hold up."
