Harbour Ward CPZ Parking Extension Report Published
Details of Proposed Extension to Controlled Parking Zone G1 have been published, and will now be considered by Cabinet Member for Transport for decision and publishing the final scheme.
"The proposal is to extend a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) in the Folkestone Harbour Ward (G1) to include East Cliff and other adjacent roads as shown in appendix 1. This report puts forward the findings of the recent public consultation for the proposed extension, and makes recommendations that reflect the responses received. "
Highlights:
- That subject to statutory consultation on a draft Traffic Regulation Order (TRO), parking controls consisting of limited waiting and permit parking are introduced in all but Segrave Crescent and Thanet Gardens, where a significant majority did not support parking controls.
- That the hours of operation for the permit restrictions replicate Zone G1, all days, 8am - 8pm.
- That non-permit holders be allowed free limited waiting for up to an hour in roads that can accommodate this.
- That the number of residents' visitors' permits per household be limited to 100 in any year but this limit be extended in exceptional circumstances.
Many local residents had been calling for some chance for friends and relatives to "pop in" without needing to use a visitors permit, so the "free hour" should be welcomed, although "on roads that can accommodate this" could use clarification. Which roads will, which roads won't?
That the two roads that had a significant majority against being included in the CPZ (Segrave Crescent and Thanet Gardens ) have been excluded and will now not have CPZ controls in those roads is a welcome sign that some notice has been taken of the consultation. Of course there will be differing opinions, even in the same road, but it seems reasonable that if the majority of residents in a road were against their road being included in the zone, then it is not included in the zone.
