HMS Kent Lunch with Captain

FMTMN

HMS Kent was docked in Dover Western Docks and I was one of a few to be invited to lunch aboard the ship with the Commodore.

When a ship is in dock you might expect it to be fairly still but that is, in fact, not the case. My sea legs gradually became used to the sway and on arrival we were escorted to the bridge where we were met by various officers. HMS Kent is on its way to Gibraltar and then off to Scotland for a refit, which will take a year.

Our lunch venue was the Commodore's Lounge, which was long and narrow and tilted to one end and that, combined with the ships sway, created laughter when glasses slid across the table, requiring rescue from wherever it ended up.

Having got to know many of the Mayors in the past 4 months, the conversation flowed easily and the quality lunch made the special invitation a valued treat.

As Cinque Port Mayors we were given this opportunity as a Thank You for the support we give throughout the year to HMS Kent and her crew.
