Hoax warning of the day: a reverse PIN will not help you

13 Sep 2011

Kent Trading Standards has been contacted by a concerned resident after they received a "hoax email" purporting to be from Crime Stoppers. The email states that "if forced by a robber to withdraw monies, the victim can notify the bank they are under duress and alert the Police by entering their PIN number in reverse."

This is a hoax, and entering a reverse PIN will have no effect.

Many similar email hoaxes are in circulation and Trading Standards would advise that any unsolicited email is checked carefully before responding. Many of these hoaxes are described on the internet, on sites such as http://www.hoax-slayer.com

Never forward these unsolicited emails unless you are very sure of their veracity.
