A resident from Sunnyside Road has been in touch about a serious problem with a hole in Sunnyside Road off Sandgate Esplanade. The hole appeared some weeks ago, and Kent Highways had investigated but said it is a Southern Water responsibility and it had effectively coned off and left.

However, the size of the hole is increasing, to the extent that the bin lorries have this week refused to go up the road to the bin collections due to it cracking further and the hazard of it collapsing. Although they are apparently going to make alternative arrangements with a smaller lorry, it's clear action is needed - soon.

I contacted the local Highways Steward about the problem, and was pleased to be told that Kent Highways have agreed to undertake the repair as Southern Water have denied responsilbility for the issue. The repair is now scheduled to be be made this Monday (26th October) and the site is being regularly checked for further movement.
