Hudl2 Losing Time: It's Not Just You...
Having spent a slightly frustrating few hours over the weekend trying to resolve some issues with my Tesco Hudl2, I thought I'd post my experience and feedback from Tesco here in case it saves anyone else a few minutes angst...
I got my tablet around 6 months ago on the basis of a recommendation (from @garymarkfuller) that they were at the time the best value tablet on the market. I've been delighted with it since: quick, smooth, nicely configured, decent price (now £99): as customer reviews go, mark me down as really content with my Hudl2 (and it seems I'm not alone).
However, a few days ago, the Hudl2 took a system upgrade that took it a while (which is fine) and has since been consistently displaying the wrong time (which is not).
I hadn't thought the time issue was that much of an issue until I started getting "interesting" issues with a number of apps (errors, being logged out - that sort of thing). I wondered if the time issue might be to blame, so reset the time manually to the correct time, and all was well - except that the Hudl2 was clearly losing time quite quickly (a number of minutes an hour) so I had to reset quick often.
I'd tried turning it off and turning it on again, setting the date and time to automatically update, then trying manually updating, but no dice: automatic updating wasn't, manually updating brings the time right but then immediately the Hudl2 starts losing time again.
I couldn't find any really recent leads online to this (although there are a number of forum links up to a year old reporting a similar issue with Hudl2) so I tweeted Tesco directly. Pleasingly they replied quite quickly, and their advice was:
"This is a bug with the Intel system. The hudl team are working on a patch to fix this and will be rolling out another incremental update within the next 8 weeks to fix the issue.
"In the meantime, users can manually go into Settings > Date & Time and either set the time manually or manually change the Time Zone back to GMT +01:00 British Summer Time. Once this has been set, hudl will continue to report the accurate time. The software update will set this automatically without the need for the user to manually modify the time."
Now - I had tried the fix, and it's not working for me. However it is reassuring that we're looking at a temporary problem and Tesco are looking at resolving it.
I look forward to the service upgrade that sorts the loss of time out by 6 December latest (that's 8 weeks from when I was promised the update last Saturday)!
