If they are Guilty, Jail Them

7 Feb 2010

Lynne Beaumont has called on Members of Parliament to be sent to prison if found guilty of false accounting in their expense claims. The Public Prosecutions Director has said that three Labour MPs and one Tory peer are to face charges under the Theft Act over their expenses claims.

Lynne, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Folkestone and Hythe, says:

"If the four Parliamentarians are found guilty of false accounting, then they should be jailed.

"The public need to be able to trust their MP's. They can talk about reform as much as they like, but they can make a straightforward pledge to voters at the next election to regain some respect."

Lynne has made a simple pledge when she becomes your next MP.

"My 3 promises are simple:

  • I will never claim second homes expenses,
  • I will commute to London
  • I will have no other paid job, sponsorship or directorship as an MP.

"I want all other Parliamentary candidates to make the same promise. Without this, there will be suspicion that MPs are just in it for what they can get."
