In Memory of David Dickinson
It is with shock and sadness that Shepway Liberal Democrats have heard today of the death of David Dickinson.
David became leader of the Liberal Democrats on Shepway District Council in 2004, and was Councillor for Folkestone Park ward from 1991 to 2007.
Lynne Beaumont served on Shepway District Council alongside David as a Councillor for Park ward from 2003 until he stood down in 2007, and has paid her tribute to David. Lynne said:
"This has been a terrible week for tragic news for both Shepway and the Liberal Democrats - I'm devastated to hear to hear of David's death.
"David was not just my ward colleague but a real gentleman: he became leader of the Liberal Democrat Group in Shepway in 2004 and led us out of some terrible times. He served as an excellent Mayor of Folkestone, and also a wonderful Chairman of Shepway District Council, treating all Councillors and the public with respect and dignity.
"David also did so much for Folkestone outside politics including through the church and volunteer organisations like the Folkestone Rainbow Centre. So many people will miss David, his love, and his kindness.
"My heart goes out to his wife Paula and his whole family: they, and we, have lost a great man."
Former Folkestone Park Town Councillor Bev Rolfe also spoken of her sadness:
"David Dickinson will be very sadly missed by many, many people. He was very hard working and a most gentlemanly and humble man but did SO much for the local area as a Councillor, Mayor, Shepway District Council leader and in his private life.
"We have lost a truly exceptional man. Sincere sympathy for Paula and his family."
