Instep Dance at Brockhill School
Most of us will never know just how much talent is flourishing in our schools. Fortunately, I was invited to a show by Instep Dance Company, based at Brockhill School, and I experienced the highest level of performance I could have imagined. The programme enabled a wide range of performances to be seen from the various stages of instruction and development, from tiny tots to those ready to leave the education system.
I was reduced to tears when over 20 young men performed a dance dedicated to Peter Catmull, a Deputy Headteacher who died earlier this year. The sensitivity of their movements and the honour they paid to his memory, brought tears to more eyes than just my own.
Jacqui Mortimer has been the driving force behind Instep for many years and she considers it to be her life's work. It is a work well done as the dances by the company surpasses many university standard exhibitions and can only be described as outstanding.
I am so pleased and delighted that this experience was part of my Mayoral duties. I suggest everyone who reads this looks out for opportunities to attend any future Instep performances.
