It's Cheriton Light Festival this weekend!

From 6pm to 9pm on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th February Strange Cargo will be bringing you the third Cheriton Light Festival. There is a line up of extraordinary artists, who have made beautiful artworks for you to see and participate in.

Festival visitors coming into Folkestone West station by train can view Jyll Bradley's beautiful, luminescent new sculpture Espalier on Strange Cargo's factory building. At the far end of Cheriton High Street, Ross Ashton and Karin Monid's immersive sound and light artwork Spiritus is at All Souls Church.

We are delighted to welcome David Ward to our gallery with his exhibition Light on the Feet (footfalls for Samuel Beckett) which will remain in the gallery and open to the public until 26th March, this is ahead of this summer's exhibition Seeing Round Corners that David is curating at Turner Contemporary. We are delighted to welcome French company, Porté par le Vent to the festival. Their most recent visit was to Lumiere in London and they are returning to the UK to fly their majestic Luminéoles for Cheriton Lights.

This year's festival has even more opportunities for participation. There are free workshops: Knowing Me, Knowing You by Terry Perk and Daniel Tollady, from 6-9pm at Strange Cargo where participants can assemble a laser cut kaleidoscope. Use these as an optical viewer for making astonishing smart phone images of the festival artworks to send to the inflatable outdoor cinema screen. Visit Greg Stobbs Mr. Squirl's Starlight Yarn at Cheriton Baptist Church, and the Selfie Zone at St. Hilda Road and send us your photos and film clips for the screen at Folkestone Printing. This is just a small glimpse of what to expect and there is so much to see and do, from the 50 residential light windows trail, to Nozomi Watanbe's star constellations at Cheriton Rec.
