It's going to be close!

The Lib Dems are set to defeat Tory leader Michael Howard at the next General Election according to a poll in the Sunday Express.

The sensational poll says that the Lib Dems will win by 600 votes. This margin could grow if more Labour voters switch tactically to the Lib Dems.

Local campaigner Peter Carroll commented, "The results of this poll are very encouraging. Our area needs a strong voice in Parliament to fight for the better services local people need. That's why more and more people are turning to the Lib Dems here."

Political Commentators are predicting a very close finish at the General Election expected in 2005.

Stunning year for Lib Dems

The Lib Dems have enjoyed a stunning year in 2003. Record local election results in May included gaining both Shepway and Hythe Councils from the Conservatives.

The Brent East by-election victory, in which the Lib Dems came from third place to inflict a huge defeat on Tony Blair and Labour, demonstrated that the Lib Dems are now the real opposition to Labour today.

Locally, the Lib Dems won one of the safest Conservative seats left in Shepway in October. Lib Dem Ann Birchmore romped to victory with nearly 50% of the vote in the New Romney Coast by-election.

Peter Carroll commented, "The Lib Dems are getting stronger. It is clear that the next election is going to be a close run thing between the Lib Dems and the Conservatives."
