Janice Watch: Joining with the French National Front?

Rumours are circulating that South-East England MEP (and former UKIP Prospective Parlimentary Candidate for Folkestone and Hythe) Janice Atkinson is poised to join a new far right European Parliamentary group called "Europe of Nations and Freedoms" led by the French Front National and their leader Jean Marie Le Pen.

Forming a European Group with MEPs from 7 different countries will see the new group gaining a new status and significant extra funds from European taxpayers.

The Front National's group is also rumoured to include MEPs from Hungarian nationalist party Jobbik, Netherland's PVV (Party for Freedom), led by Geert Wilders, and Italy's anti-globalisation party Lega Nord (Northern League).

Folkestone and Hythe Lib Dem Campaigner Tim Prater commented:

"I imagine many voters that voted UKIP in the European Elections would feel sick to their stomach if they saw that the result of their vote was that far right parties across Europe got extra funding and influence due to Janice Atkinson's actions."
