Dear Jenny,

I was taken aback by one of your comments last night at Folkestone & Hythe Full Council, discussing the move to a committee system.

At 1.18.55 you say:

My group have voted against the committee system all along."

I'm not sure if you are misremembering, or just confused, but that's not true.

I moved the motion at Full Council on 21/6/2023 launching the move to the Committee System.

The key line of that motion was:

This Council resolves:

1.       That the Committee System model of governance is adopted by Folkestone and Hythe District Council with effect from the Annual Council meeting in May 2024.

The voting on that motion:

FOR: Councillors Akuffo-Kelly, M Blakemore, P Blakemore, Butcher, Chapman, Cooper, Davison, Fuller, Godfrey, Grant, Holgate, Jones, Keen, Lockwood, A Martin, E Martin, J Martin, McConville, McShane, Meade, Prater, Shoob, Speakman, Thomas, Walker and Wing (26).

AGAINST: Councillors Goddard and Mrs Hollingsbee (2).

ABSTENTIONS: None (0).

(Voting figures: 26 for, 2 against, 0 abstentions).

Three Conservative Councillors voted for the motion: Godfrey, Grant, A Martin.

Two Conservative Councillors voted against the motion: Goddard, Hollingsbee.

Your group have not voted against the committee system all along Jenny. The majority voted in favour that day. Pretending otherwise does you know favours.

Yours,

Tim
