KCC Trading Standards Message: Have SAFE fun with Fireworks
KCC Trading Standards would like to make sure you all have a safe and enjoyable Bonfire Night.
Fireworks are a traditional part of Bonfire Night celebrations, but they are dangerous explosives and cause many serious accidents every year. To help you enjoy responsibly please be aware that:
- If you let off any fireworks in a public place, you can be fined up to £5000 or issued with an £80 Fixed Penalty Notice.
- You may not set off fireworks between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am (extended to midnight on Bonfire Night, and 1am on New Year's Eve, Diwali and Chinese New Year).
- It is illegal sell bangers, mini rockets, fireworks that fly erratically (Squibs, helicopters etc), aerial shells and maroons.
- If you sell fireworks to anyone under 18 years of age you could face a maximum penalty of £5000 and/or 6 months imprisonment.
The police have the power to stop and search anyone suspected of carrying fireworks.
