Kent Police Update August 2013 - Sandgate, Cheriton and Morehall

This is the update for the month of August 2013 for Cheriton, Sandgate and the surrounding areas.

During a routine patrol of Tesco Stores in Cheriton High Street, Officers Mark Ball and Laura Zazo were alerted by staff of 2 dogs which had been left in a parked vehicle during which was a day where the temperature was in the mid-twenties. Officers quickly identified and found the vehicle owner, who was given words of warning regarding their conduct.

PCSO's Laura Zazo and Mark Ball attended Sandgate beach in relation to a report of a nuisance dog. Officers attended with the Shepway dog warden, who spoke with the owner regarding their responsibility for the dog and ensured that it was put on a lead and suitably controlled.

On 1st August PCSO's Laura Zazo and Mark Ball came to the aid of a family whose vehicle had broken down on a 50mph road. Appropriate traffic control measures were put in place whilst Officers arranged for a suitable vehicle repair company to arrive.

Whilst on patrol of known anti-social behaviour hot spots, Officers Mark Ball and Laura Zazo stopped and spoke with a group of young persons who were screaming and swearing in the Leas Cliff car park. Details of the group were obtained and parents informed. The group were given words of warning and escorted from the area.

On Saturday 3rd August local Councillors and PCSO's met with Cheriton residents at the latest Residents Meeting. Various issues were discussed, with a large focus on the retail units being constructed at the junction with Ashley Avenue and Cheriton High Street. Members of the panel were responsibility for reporting back at the next meeting regarding set action points.

On Sunday 4th August PCSO Laura Zazo and Mark Ball attended a family event and opening of new leisure facilities at Military Road Recreation Ground. Officers Ball and Zazo engaged with visitors and provided security marking for mobile phones, etc.

PCSO Mark Ball attended The Coop in Cheriton High Street, in relation to a report of Theft/Shoplifting. From viewing the stores CCTV footage of the incident Officer Ball immediately identified the suspects as he has had previous dealings with them. This incident is currently on going.

On 7th August 2013 PCSO's Mark Ball and Laura Zazo attended a residential property in Cheriton High Street regarding an on-going neighbour dispute. Officers spoke with both parties, where an agreement was compiled which each neighbour was happy with.

PCSO's Laura Zazo and Mark Ball attended Quested Road in relation to a report of young person's throwing eggs at residential properties. A group of approx. a dozen youths matching descriptions provided were stopped and spoken to at the junction with Stanley Road and Baker Road. The group were given suitable words of advice/warning and escorted from the area.

High Visibility Patrols

Over the past month PCSO's Laura Zazo, Karen Tappenden, and Mark Ball have been paying particular attention to:

  • Cheriton High Street
  • Park Farm Industrial Estate
  • Tesco store

Local officers will continue to liaise with partner agencies, local Neighbourhood Watch coordinators, shop managers and their respective teams in order to make Sandgate and Cheriton a safer place to work, live and visit.
