Kent Police update October 2012 - Cheriton and Morehall

This is the update for the month of October 2012, for Cheriton, Morehall and surrounding areas.

Education officers teamed up with local PCSO's Gary Carr and Mark Ball in order to conduct a truancy sweep throughout Folkestone town centre.

On Saturday 13th October 2012 PCSO Mark Ball hosted a Community Meeting at Cheriton Library. Residents from Chilham Road and local councillors attended. Issues surrounding criminal damage and Anti-social behaviour were discussed.

PCSO Mark Ball was alerted to a report of Theft of a laptop, which had been brought into a local computer store. The laptop was quickly seized and the owner contacted.

On Saturday 20th 2012 PCSO Mark Ball attended Cheriton Park in relation to a report of a young female who had a brown Staffordshire dog which was off its lead and causing other persons distress. The lady was instructed to put the dog on a lead or risk being fined.

Whilst on routine foot patrol in Cheriton High Street, PCSO Mark Ball stopped a group of young persons who were smoking. Cigarettes and lighters were seized and disposed off, and parents informed.

PCSO's Gary Carr and Mark Ball attended Tesco Store in Hawkinge in relation to a group of young persons who were congregating outside causing Anti-social behaviour. Identities of the group were obtained, words of advice provided and then they were moved on from the area.

On Sunday 21st October 2012 whilst tasked to Operation Maxim (high visibility patrols targeting crime hot spots) attended Leas Cliff Car park and stopped a group of youths who were reported to be causing ASB. The group were provided words of advice and moved on from the area.

High Visibility Patrols:

When compared with last years crime figures Cheriton is down by 15.3% and Morehall is also down by 1.4%. As with last months report, although the crime statistics are very encouraging there still remains an on going issue with Theft/Shoplifting and Criminal Damage, which are both higher than last years recorded figures.

The majority of criminal damage is still the subject of people under the influence of drink and/or drugs, especially surrounding groups between the ages of 14 - 17 yrs old. Reports of Theft/Shoplifting have come predominantly from Tesco Store, The Coop and One Stop. As a result targeted patrols are being conducted in:

• Cheriton Park
• Cheriton High Street
• Tesco Store
• One Stop

Local officers Karen Tappenden and Mark Ball will continue to liaise with partner agencies, local Neighbourhood Watch coordinators, shop managers and their respective teams.
