Kent Trading Standards warn of bogus jobs scam

9 Jan 2009

Kent Trading Standards have received reports of bona fide Kent based company email addresses being impersonated by scammers based in Nigeria in an attempt to defraud victims.

One such scam involved an email about an online employment opportunity. It purported to explain that the Kent company was expanding and they required people to process their online orders. The fraudsters were offering a percentage of each order as payment.

The Kent company have confirmed this is a scam.

Kent Trading Standards strongly advise consumers to be very careful when considering offers of employment from unreliable sources.

As times get tougher for consumers and businesses in this fragile economic climate, rogue traders and scammers are becoming more inventive and as consumers struggle to make ends meet they may be more susceptible to offers of financial reward for little effort.

If in doubt about an opportunity, please seek advice from Consumer Direct on 08454 04 05 06.
