Leadership Election 2019: Jo v Ed
The Liberal Democrat leadership election has begun in earnest!
Nominations closed on Friday and two candidates were nominated by MPs and members - Ed Davey & Jo Swinson.
Voting will begin on the 1st of July - and throughout this contest, the candidates will both have the chance to make their case to party members.
Below, there is a message from each of the candidates, and also some important information on hustings and the election process beneath.
Official message from Ed Davey MP: The Planet's on the ballot
We can stop Brexit - we must. For our economy. For our families, friends and neighbours who've made Britain their home. For what it says about us, as a country.
You could pick a hundred reasons why we must stop Brexit. Top of my list is the fight against the Climate Change Emergency.
Ed Davey
Official message from Jo Swinson MP: Wow! Thank you!
I've been overwhelmed by your support since I launched my campaign to become Leader of our party.
From my campaign launch with young tech apprentices to appearances on the Andrew Marr Show, Question Time, Good Morning Britain and the Today Progamme (twice!), my feet hardly touched the floor.
I am standing because our party, and our country, are at a turning point.
Jo Swinson

Voting in the leadership election will begin on the 1st July, with ballot papers / emails being sent to all eligible members then.
