Lib Dem Bishop Launches General Election Campaign
In front of a crowd of passionate local party supporters in Chichester Hall, Sandgate, local lad, Simon Bishop, today launched his campaign to be the next Member of Parliament for Folkestone and Hythe.
Bishop, 44, was also joined by author and front runner to become the next President of the national Liberal Democrat party, Dr Mark Pack and Lib Dem councillor Tim Prater.
In a rallying call to members and reaching out to the residents of Folkestone and Hythe who voted to Remain in the EU, or who have had second thoughts about their decision to vote Leave in 2016, Simon said:
"The next few weeks are critical. The decisions made by the winner of this election will define our country for a generation. The stakes are incredibly high.
"This is politics 2019, anything can happen both nationally and locally.
"This election is not about the red team or the blue team, because on the issue of Brexit they merge into one. Both Labour and the Conservatives want to negotiate and deliver Brexit. Only the Liberal Democrats can stop Brexit, it is as simple as that.
"It is like 1997 when people who thought they would never in their entire lives vote Labour, voted Labour. Only this time they are voting for the Lib Dems. I already know of several life-long friends in Saltwood who are swapping sides for the first time ever.
If you are a Remainer, whether Tory, Labour or Green, ask yourselves which is the Party most likely to stop Brexit. The answer has to be the Liberal Democrats."
