Local Lib Dems are fighting to clean up streets like this one across Shepway

Local Lib Dems have launched their campaign to win control of Shepway Council on 1st May.

The Conservatives have made a terrible mess of Council finances. Despite big tax rises, balances have fallen by half to dangerously low levels! Lib Dems are pledging to sort out the mess. They also plan to improve recycling, tackle crime and to clean up our area.

Cllr Julie White said, "Local people feel let down by the Council. Instead of improving basic services to local people, they have wasted our money on outside consultants and giving Tory Councillors huge pay rises. It is time for a change."

Dirty Streets

The Lib Dems plan to make sure our money is spent better by the Council. One of the top priorities will be to clean up our dirty streets and to improve pavements and road surfaces. They also plan to take tough action to tackle crime and anti social behaviour.

Cllr Neil Matthews commented, "Everyone tells me that they are fed up with the state of our area. We want people to feel proud about where they live and our Council should be working to make this happen."

Tackling Crime

The Lib Dems are committed to taking a tough line on crime and anti social behaviour. They are fighting for more Police on patrol in our area. They are also campaigning to improve street lighting and to make better use of CCTV in our area.

Lib Dem Campaigner Janet Andrews said, "Over the last few years, the Conservatives have allowed our CCTV system to fall into a state of disrepair. Now they have cut the funding by £30,000 meaning things will get worse. We need a Council that will take the battle against crime seriously."
